Safe Disclosure

Saint Mary’s University is committed to fostering a safe and ethical work and learning environment. The university encourages university community members to report concerns about matters that are inconsistent with this commitment. In support of this commitment, the university has established a Safe Disclosure Policy and procedures. The Safe Disclosure process provides a confidential and safe channel to report concerns about:

  • Breach of a University policy
  • Violation of a legal or regulatory requirement
  • Research misconduct
  • Financial misconduct
  • Matters that you do not feel comfortable reporting through other University channels or processes (scroll down to Issues and Resources Chart)

The Policy underscores the university's commitment to conducting its activities and managing its resources with integrity and provides a mechanism for university members to confidentially and/or anonymously disclose concerns about suspected improper or unethical activity.

As an additional layer of support, the university has engaged the services of as a confidential method of disclosing concerns. Visit the CARE site for more information.

The Safe Disclosure Policy applies to all employees, students, volunteers, contractors and suppliers of ¶¶ÒõÊÓƵ. It does not replace other codes and policies on conduct, such as Research Policies, the Code of Student Conduct Policy, the Sexual Violence and Harassment Policy, and others.

Important Note: If you have a concern, please review existing policies in place to address specific areas of concern.  Before reporting under the Safe Disclosure Policy, review the chart below for specific guidance. Reporting under the Safe Disclosure Policy is for situations where there is no specific policy or when you are not comfortable using the specific channel or resource for bona fide reasons.
